On Not Saying 'Meat'

Instead of saying "I don't eat meat", try saying, "I don't eat animals".  'Meat' depersonalises animals, and make no mistake, animals are persons: individuals with thoughts, emotions and lives of their own.  Perhaps not people, but persons.  'Meat' commodifies persons.  This we should not do.  Try removing the word 'meat' from your lexicon altogether.  Say, "I don't eat animals".  Say, "I don't eat any animals".  I don't eat pigs.  I don't eat sheep.  Cows.  Fish.  Birds.  Persons.
